Every Northern Lights tour has its own story, but some tours stay with you forever. One such tour was spent with two wonderful ladies from the USA—Rakhee G and her friend—who joined us on a Northern Lights hunt in Rovaniemi.
From the very beginning, the journey felt special. One of them (Rakhee) turned out to be an extreme tea lover, just like us. That instantly created a connection and set a cozy tone for what was about to become a very memorable Arctic adventure.
We took them to dense forests and stunning, quiet locations, far away from city lights—perfect conditions for hunting the Northern Lights. The surroundings were peaceful, dark, and truly magical.
The temperature that night was –27°C, and yes, it was cold. They mentioned it more than once, even though they were wearing warm clothes, jackets, and caps. We smiled and reassured them, saying that once the auroras appeared, the cold would not feel so intense anymore.
They strongly disagreed.
“We Love Our Lives Too Much”
Trying to lighten the mood, we joked that when the Northern Lights appeared, they would remove their jackets and caps to take beautiful pictures. That idea was immediately rejected.
Rakhee’s friend laughed and said,
“We have no one to cry for us on our backs, so we love our lives a lot. We are not doing this.”
At that moment, it sounded final. The cold was winning.
As soon as the Northern Lights appeared in the sky, the entire atmosphere changed. The cold seemed to disappear, excitement took over, and suddenly jackets and caps were coming off.
The scene felt unreal—as if a movie shoot was happening in the middle of the Arctic forest. The ladies were fully immersed in the moment, capturing photos, laughing, and completely forgetting the temperature they had been worried about just minutes earlier.
What started as a very cold night turned into a memorable Arctic experience filled with dancing auroras, laughter, stunning photos, and the comfort of warm tea shared under the northern sky.
It was a perfect reminder that when nature puts on its best show, even –27°C feels worth it.
